Day 50: The Grayson Highlands and 500 miles

It rained in the night again, and we woke up to a foggy morning. Fortunately the sun peeked through so we had a hearty breakfast of country ham and hashbrowns while letting our tent dry off as much as possible before heading out. There are feral ponies in the Grayson Highlands, and we saw plenty of them. They are clearly used to being fed, because they were not shy. The Highlands were beautiful, but in the afternoon we got completely poured on, and stopped a little short of our goal after 11.9 miles because there was an empty shelter. It’s supposed to rain tonight, so it will be nice to not have to pack up a wet tent in the morning. We also passed mile 500 today!
