Days 76 and 77: Waynesboro

Yesterday we hiked 5 miles into Waynesboro, Virginia. It’s hard to believe we’ve walked over 400 miles in this state, and as we approach the beginning of Shenandoah National Park were starting to feel close to the end of this state despite still having over 100 miles remaining. But first, a zero in town. There is free camping near the YMCA and free showers for hikers. We spent the night here last night and spent the day running errands around town. There are many trail angels here, and we’ve gotten lots of rides from people. We also saw Miss Janet again, and got a photo of her van and uses to shuttle hikers all over the trail. We are sleeping here again tonight and will get back on trail tomorrow.

  1. Cool van! We’re on a van kick after our trip. Brian wants to know what you do with your bags when you have to run errands around town.

    1. Well or depends on the town. If we are not staying then we take bags with us. Most businesses either don’t care or have an area to set them down. Otherwise we leave them at the motel. In this town we left them with the tent at the campground. There are always thru hikers here, people watch out for each other.
