Today is a zero day, which we haven’t had in 17 days, so it’s pretty awesome. The hotel has free breakfast so we went down around 7 for some cereal, bagels, muffins, biscuits and gravy, coffee, and orange juice. By 9:30 I was hungry again, so we went to Bojangles for 2nd breakfast: fried chicken biscuit with hashbrowns and iced tea. By noon we were hungry again so we ate leftover pizza from last night. At 3 we went to the local BBQ restaurant. We’re thinking Cracker Barrel for dinner, and probably some chips after that. It’s a crazy amount of food for me, and Paul has lost at least 10 lbs, but I am usually consuming more calories than him. I get at least 3,000 per day on the trail but over the last week I’ve been hungry all the time. All. The. Time. We’ve got a short resupply this time, which means fewer days of food to carry so I am upping my intake by at least 500 calories per day. Donut holes, brownies, and moon pies were added to the fig bars, granola bars, muffins, sour gummy worms, snickers and jerky. We also carry vegetables: bell peppers, Roma tomatoes, carrots, garlic, and shallots make it into the rotation with apples and bananas for fruit. With dinner we always have some salmon or chicken with grains and vegetables and olive oil. (2 dinners, of course). Aside from breakfast, lunch, and dinners, I’ve been having 8 snacks per day, which are usually 200+ calories. I’ll be upping that to 10 now. Out here you can eat whatever you want and probably still lose weight! I only took one photo today at the BBQ restaurant, because I though it was funny.
