Today we crossed our final border and entered Maine. Only 280 miles to Katahdin now, but the terrain has remained tough and will remain so for about another hundred miles. Today we did the Mahoosuc Notch, known to be the most difficult or fun mile of the trail. A mile of jumbled boulders at the bottom of a steep gorge, it took us almost two hours to make our way through. We got in 12 miles today and are camped just past the notch. The first thing in the morning we climb one of the steepest miles on the trail, gaining 1500 feet in less than a mile. You really have to earn every mile around here. The weather has been lovely and so have the views, hopefully that continues for a few days.
Oh my gosh, you are rock climbing. I hope the weather holds out!
Woah.
