Maybe it’s because the finish line just keeps getting closer, maybe it’s just some offers are too good to pass up, but we took an unplanned zero today. Our friend Strider has an acquaintance who lives in Maine, and she offered to put us all up in her house for a day. This offer included laundry, a real internet connection, and a kitchen. We figured we would have one more zero before the trip was over, but we didn’t expect it to be so soon. It was totally worth it! Paul cooked a big meal for everyone and we had a feast. The house is right off the trail, so we did a 0.8 mile hike today in order to depart right from the trailhead on her street in the morning. Lots of friends are finishing the trail now, things are starting to feel bittersweet.
