Day 18: Officially Hot

The morning was warm today, but the first section of our hike was very nice as we descended out of Deep Creek Canyon in the shade. A few miles in we ran into Coppertone, a 2006 PCT hiker who travels up the trail in his custom made motor home giving out root beer floats, fruit, and cookies. We sat in the shade for about an hour before heading on. We entered yet another burn area, walking over exposed ridgelines in the heat of the day for many miles. Finally we came to Silverwood Lake, and stopped at a picnic area to swim, use the restrooms, get water, and relax until about 5. We pushed on as the day finally started to cool down for another 7 miles, bringing the total mileage today to 25. Tomorrow will be warmer, but we cross I 15 in the morning, where there will be McDonald’s and Subway!
