Day 9: Fire Alternate to Hurkey Creek Campground

We got up early this morning and were out of camp before the sun was up. While the sunrise was beautiful, we took two wrong side trails before we found the correct one to the only reliable water source of the day. All the time we gained by leaving early was lost. Fortunately there was a nice breeze today, and as we gained elevation we entered pine forest with decent shade. We walked the alternate route around the section of first and trail that are closed, which involved waking a few forest service roads and a short walk along the side of the highway. Most of the walk was actually very nice. We are at a developed campground tonight, a group of backpackers surrounded by RVs and extravagant multi room tents! Tomorrow we go to Idyllwild, the next day San Jacinto peak. Time to rest our tired feet.
