Day 58: In the Woods

The landscape today was reminiscent of Oregon: huge Douglas-fir trees, ferns, and plenty of green. There were still many blowdowns across the trail but not so bad as yesterday. We did quite a bit of climbing in the afternoon, and had planned to camp just before the road to Quincy. When we arrived there were no decent spots to pitch a tent so we decided to push on until we found something. Of course the trail went straight uphill from there, but we came across a spot just big enough for a tent right next to the trail. Someone left a hammock in the trees right next to it as well. 29.0 miles today! Tomorrow we’ll have hiked 900 miles, and we’ll be passing through Belden. Hopefully there will be good food to celebrate.

  1. Paul and Megan,
This is likely getting “ahead of you” a little bit, but Mom and I drove Hwy 20 across Washington and stopped at Rainy Pass-the point which the trail crosses Hwy 20 through North Cascades National Park. Talking to the Ranger we learned that from here to trail’s end in Canada is approximately 50 miles. It will make a nice rendezvous, I think and after we can drive around to the Canadian side in time to pick you up. We will nail down logistics later (obviously). Dad
