Day 63: 1000 Miles

Last night at camp, a fellow camper in a converted ambulance fed us beer and leftover pork carnitas, some unexpected trail magic that kept us up a bit too late. We were a little tired today as we walked through the remainder of Lassen Volcanic National Park. We passed several lovely lakes and circled around Lassen Peak, still covered under a blanket of white snow. In the afternoon we hit a dry stretch of trail and decided to hike through it to the next water source, bringing the total miles for the day to 27. We are camped near highway 44, alone tonight because most hikers choose to go 1/2 mile into Old Station and camp behind the gas station there. We opted not to go in since the restaurant is closed anyhow. It was a warm day today and a warm one tonight!
