Maybe it was the thought of town food, or perhaps the notion of a shower, but we got up and on the trail earlier today than all week. We were hiking by 6, and had a surprising amount of uphill for a day going into town. We went through some burned areas, and we could also see the haze front a fire currently burning in the wilderness. We hiked the 20.8 miles to the road by 2:15, and got a ride into town after just 3 cars passed.
I don’t know if a shower has ever felt so good. The dust has been crazy up here! We are camped at the city park, which lets hikers stay for $5. We ate some food, got some groceries, and will head back out tomorrow. Onward to Oregon!
