Our cumulative elevation gain today was over 7,000 feet, and nearly the same loss in elevation. We crossed 4 high passes today, each a thousand for climb or more just to descend down to a lake or creek and start climbing all over again.
The mountains here are incredibly steep, and we also had dozens of switchbacks to make our way up or down. Even so, the trail was steep by PCT standards, especially in the afternoon part of the day. We saw tons of weekend backpackers out today, and stopped to chat with a few. You always know it’s the weekend when you see lots of clean people (and smell them too). We went 26.5 miles today, and are looking forward to a short day into town tomorrow.
