We set out this morning with the goal of hiking a new longest day. Our previous record was 32 miles, and we wanted at least 35 but were really aiming for 40. We left camp at first light and headed out. In the morning we didn’t make time as fast as we wanted, so we were worried we might not pull it off. Fortunately the terrain today was easy, and we picked up the pace after lunch.
We both put on our headphones to help pass the time, and kept our breaks short and sweet. Around dinnertime we got lucky and hit trail magic. Free food and no cooking required! This gave us a boost for the last 6 miles and we hit the 40 mile mark just before dark. Despite such a big day, we are both feeling pretty good! Still, we will be sleeping in tomorrow.
Yay!!! Congrats 🐾
A John Muir day! Nice work.
