Day 76: A Lot of Sun, a Little Snow

The Marble Mountains are beautiful, but today was a hot and humid one. We were making slower time than we planned for most of the morning when we hit some significant patches of snow. The snow was icy and yet slushy, slippery and sometimes steep, melting unevenly and giving out in areas. We were slipping and sliding and postholing enough to slow us down even more and just remind us how much it sucks to hike on snow in the heat. We were rewarded with a lakeside lunch spot before beginning the long descent toward Seiad Valley. We had hoped to walk 30 miles today, but we gave up and camped after 27.
