Day 144: Silver Pass

Today was a day of climbing. In the morning, we passed through Devil’s Postpile National Monument and near Mammoth Lakes. We climbed up over 10,000 feet and had several ups and downs before going over Silver Pass (10,781) in the afternoon. There was still a good bit of snow on the pass, especially the North facing side, but also on the South. The views were awesome and there were several Alpine lakes on both sides of the pass. We set up camp at Silver Pass Lake (10,430) after 26.7 miles. The wind is blowing cold up here so we’re ready for a cold night tonight. We cooked dinner in the vestibule and ate in the tent to keep warm. We saw some familiar faces today, thru hikers headed northbound to finish up their hike. The end gets nearer every day.
