It was rainy and windy through the night but we stayed dry and warm in the tent. It wasn’t until I unzipped the door of the tent and snow fell on my head that I realized just how cold it was outside. Everything was frozen, including our food bags, and a cold wind was blowing hard. We packed up the tent as fast as we could and made for the next shelter without even bothering with breakfast. The overMountain shelter was only 2.7 miles down the trail, and is actually an old converted barn. There we had coffee and snacks before heading back out. We hiked just under 12 miles to a hostel/b&b and got a room for the night. This hostel is supposed to have the best breakfast on the trail, so that will be a nice treat before we head out tomorrow. Also, today we said goodbye to North Carolina! We’ve been walking the border for over 150 miles, jumping back and forth between NC/TN. Now we are officially in Tennessee and headed for Virginia.
It looks cold!!!! Love that funny picture of Paul!!
