I meant to post last night but I got tired and went to bed early. Yesterday Dedee and Gordon drove us to the lodge at Amicalola Falls in Georgia. Here the blue-blazed approach trail will take us the 8 miles to the summit at Springer Mountain. Springer is the southern terminus of the trail, and our journey will officially begin. While there is a shorter route to reach the terminus, Amicalola Falls is more accessible and a more common starting point for AT thru-hikers. We registered and weighed our packs, then spent the day relaxing and exploring. Today we will hike the approach trail and the first few miles of the AT.

Great picture of you guys with Deedee and Gordon.
