On Wednesday morning we hiked out with Amy, 1.7 miles into Damascus. With the benefit of a car and driver, we were able to resupply at a real grocery store, do laundry, eat dinner at a Chinese buffet, and relax in a hotel room for the night. On Thursday she drove us and some other hikers back into town to get ready for Trail Days. There were over 800 thru hikers here, as well as a ton of other people who came for the festival. We got our tent worked on, but we also got a good deal on a new tent, over two pounds lighter than the old one. Then Paul won a sleeping bag, new trekking poles, we both won some new socks, some t shirts, and a daypack. With all the extra gear we are now waiting for the post office to open on Monday so we can get rid of all the extra weight before we leave town. Today most of the vendors are gone, but a few are still set up, and the president of Yukon Outfitters offered to trade hammocks for the sleeping bag we won, so we each got a hammock! We decided to keep one and send one home. I think we’ll like having it at camp. Four zero days! That’s more than we’ve had total before now, were getting soft!
