While National parks are usually where people go to get away from the modern world and enjoy some nature, the opposite is true for thru-hikers in SNP. Every day we cross Skyline Drive multiple times, never out of range of the noise of cars and motorcycles. Visitors take photos of us like we are part of the wildlife and ask is funny questions. But we also get to use real toilets every day, we pass stores with hot food, beer and wine, milkshakes and ice cream. Today we said our final goodbye to all of it. We walked 21 miles today to camp about a mile out of the park. I saw 2 bears this morning, bringing my AT bear count to ten. We have walked 97 miles in 5 days. Tomorrow we only have 3 miles into town, where we will rest up before “the roller coaster” and the final section in Virginia.
Glad you posted your bear count. I was wondering! Sounds busy! You guys are a phenomenon to all of us!!! Haha 👍
Totally agree with all of Mo’s comments!!! 🐻👬
