Last night while everyone was in their tents, a truck drove into camp, backed up into a tree, then went back down the dirt road it came up, leaving us all bewildered but presuming a drunken joyride. No rain in the night, but it rained on us a few times today (not that our clothes ever dried out anyway). We had a long climb today, gaining 2600 feet and almost hitting 4000 feet elevation but not quite. We hiked 17 miles today and got a ride into Rutland VT. We’re drying off, getting some groceries and Chinese food! There is thunder and lightning and more rain tonight, so we’re happy to be in town. We are now 489 miles from Katahdin, and only 45 miles from New Hampshire. It feels pretty weird.
You’ll definitely hit 4000′ in NH! You have a place to stay, do laundry, dry out, eat, drink, sleep.
