Today was a day for chores and exploring. As always, the first order of business was coffee. We got laundry and groceries done once we had breakfast. Prices here are a little bit less expensive than Alaska, though it might be in part we have a favorable exchange rate to CAD.
Our next leg follows the Klondike Highway South to Whitehorse, and I did less (really none) research or planning for this segment, so we’ve been figuring out our waypoints while we have internet in town.
Once the chores were done we set out for some sightseeing. We stopped at the Dawson City Museum, where we learned quite a lot about the history of Dawson City, the gold rush, the native communities, and the very short lived railroad. It was a pretty cool museum and worth the stop.
We walked to the Jack London museum to realize it was already closed, but we were able to look into the restored replica of his cabin.
We then walked down to the waterfront and put our feet into the mighty Yukon River, just below the confluence of the Klondike and the Yukon.
Lastly, we set out to find a geocache. We realized that the visitor information center has placed several around town at historical sites, and each one asks a question based on the information provided at each site. If you get 4 and bring the answers to the visitor center they give you a prize. Of course we took on the challenge, but they are closed for the day so we’ll stop by in the morning. We ended up finding 5 caches today. Canada makes the 9th country we’ve found geocaches in.
