AK to AZ Day 99: Smooth Sailing

October 10
58mi/93km
+4100ft/1200m

Despite a sustained climb in the morning, today was a lot of fun. The weather was cool, the skies were blue, and the riding surfaces were great.

The climb out of town was a bit washboarded, and lasted 25mi/40km, but we reached the end by early afternoon, and stopped in the shade of the pines to eat. After lunch, the riding was flat and smooth. We finally got a little speed on these dirt roads. Plus, there are very few cars out here.

The temperature dropped a lot today compared to yesterday, and tonight we expect it to freeze. This cold snap is only meant to last a few days, but these happen to be the days we’re at our highest altitude. We will have a few cold nights ahead!
