It was another foggy and damp morning, but we hardly minded. We had a covered picnic table to cook and eat breakfast, and only 9 miles to town for a shower and laundry.
It felt like we had a slow and relaxed morning, but we got on the bikes at the usual time, which is around 8:45 lately. It was mostly flat or downhill into town.
We arrived and immediately stopped at the cafe for some hot coffee and croissant sandwiches. Our hotel sent me check-in instructions, the door code to get inside as there is not a manned desk. We decided to go early and see if the room was ready and it was!
We took our showers, did our laundry, got our groceries, and discovered that the cafe closed at 1 and the only two restaurants in town don’t open until 4. So, we had a late lunch/early dinner at the pizza place, then walked down to the estuary boardwalk to enjoy the scenery and get a geocache at the visitor information center.
The scenery in this town is amazing. Stewart sits at the end of the longest fjord in North America, and the ice-capped mountains absolutely tower over everything. Stewart is right next to Hyder, Alaska, a town of about 50 residents. We will see Hyder tomorrow on the way to see the Salmon Glacier.
