We woke up at 5am this morning to get to the ferry in time for check-in. It’s the earliest day we’ve had on this trip, and we rode in the dark down to the ferry terminal. The sun was up in time for departure, although it was foggy to start. That didn’t last though, and most of the day was sunny and clear with great views.
The islands of the inside passage are beautiful, steep, and mostly tree covered, with beautiful waterfalls. The mainland has snow capped mountains, more waterfalls, and looks just as remote. One could spend a lifetime exploring these archipelagos, islands, peninsulas, and fjords.
We saw tons of gulls (mostly California gulls I think), Tufted Puffins, 5-6 bald eagles, a pod of Orcas, and a bunch of Humpback Whales.
Because peak season is mostly over, the ferry was not too crowded. The journey to Vancouver Island is long, and we won’t arrive until after midnight. This ride is roughly our halfway point as well. We’ve ridden over 2600mi/4200km, and we should have a similar amount remaining. It’s hard to say exactly, since our route home isn’t finalized, but it’s close enough, roughly speaking
