It feels good to be back on the bikes today. We caught the 11:45 ferry to Port Townsend, WA, and joined the Olympic Discovery Trail. We’ll be following this route west, across the Olympic Peninsula toward the Pacific Coast.

There are some really nice segments of trail on this route, but we also came to an unexpected closure and once or twice managed to miss a turn and find ourselves along the highway. We decided we’ve been spoiled by Canadian signage: explicit, frequent, and helpful. Clear signage was a bit lacking today.

Still, the weather was good, the riding was easy, and the campground we were aiming for had space available. Several other bikers are here, and some hikers as well. We chatted with our camp neighbor while we cooked dinner. Then we walked down to the beach and enjoyed the sunset over the water.
