September 13-18
We’ve had a nice little mini-vacation this past week with my parents. In Victoria, we visited Butchart Gardens before getting on the ferry to Vancouver.
Vancouver is a huge city, with a million restaurants. We ate a bunch of good food, saw some cool buildings, and took a bike ride through Stanley Park with my Dad. We saw a few cool birds too: Wood Ducks, Double-Crested Cormorants, and of course a million gulls.
Back in the USA, we visited my sister, her husband, and my niece and nephew. It’s Djangofest in Langley so we listened to some jam sessions. We got new chains for the bikes, we drank a bunch of good coffee (Canada was disappointing on the coffee front), and ate some good food.
We went for a sail with my Dad in his sailing kayak, and enjoyed the lovely sunny weather on the island. We did some route planning for the road ahead, got a few new items of clothing, and got all our things washed. We’re ready to hit the road tomorrow and tackle the Olympic Peninsula!
Djangofest in Langley is such a lucky coincidence! Gypsy jazz jam sessions after days in the saddle must have been a great reset. Curious how those new chains feel.
New chains feel great! The old ones were still in ok shape, but I’d rather replace it early than have to replace a cassette.
