If you’ve been here before, you may have noticed things are looking different. I’ve migrated to a new server, and during this process I also reorganized the layout just a bit to try and make things easier to navigate. There may be a few broken links and missing images, but I will have them restored in short order.
Welcome! We are Megan and Paul, the Hiking Hammonds, also known by our trail names Sourstraws and Piñata. In 2016, we quit our jobs to thru-hike the 2,190 mile Appalachian Trail. We loved it so much we kept going, hiking the 2,600 mile Pacific Crest Trail in 2017 and the 3,000 mile Continental Divide Trail in 2018. Together we have hiked over 8,000 miles, sleeping outside for hundreds of nights.
We had to return to real life after this 3 year hiatus, but we continue to do smaller thru-hikes, section hikes, and weekend trips. We are currently dreaming up our next big adventure, but we have a little more saving to do before it becomes a reality.
